Pillion:

First discussed with director Chris Parr who was then directing at the Traverse Theatre, Edinburgh. Subsequently submitted to the Bush, familiar to Paul through his work there as an actor.
The play is set in the shed belonging to an enthusiastic motorcycle mechanic, Fenton. He and his group of like-minded friends meet regularly – all are engaged in rebuilding an ageing Triumph motorcycle – this takes shape along with the play.
Exploitation of inexperience and naivety is a recurring theme throughout the play, which was well received – “it works because the play’s values are solidly in front of us” – Robert Cushman, Observer.

The play was later taken up by BBC TV – producer Richard Eyre, dir. Keith Evans.
